Classrooms in the Clouds
Giving the world a chance to learn
Many people do not realise the heavy burden carried by those in remote parts of the world such as NEPAL who wish to give their children any form of modern education.
Faced with severe weather conditions throughout much of the year, many of the resources needed have to be carried at least part of the way; not just books and writing equipment, but building materials, desks and other essentials such as computers. They cannot do this alone. Facing such immense adversity, it is impossible for the community to provide all the resources needed to educate their children.
Of course we could ignore their plight. But if we were to do so:- What happens to the children – can they ever climb out of poverty?
- Are we simply allowing a sub-class to develop in remote parts of the world?
- Can we be sure that they will not eventually feel the need to take positive action which is uncomfortable to us and our interests?
- What does this say about us as a civilised society?
Yet the rewards are massive in terms of helping the children of a remote and often ignored part of the world to learn to compete on equal terms with everyone else.
